Development of economic empowerment initiatives is another focal area for UniCem. In partnership with the National Development of Employment (NDE) agency, over the 2008/2009 period, the Company sponsored training to 275 youths, men and women of our partner communities, in Carpentry, Hair dressing, Auto mechanic, Motorcycle repairs, Welding, Fashion design, Electrical installation Generator repairs and maintenance, Refrigerator and air-conditioner repairs, Radio/TV maintenance, Cellular/GSM phone repairs and Fishing and water transportation.

In facilitating the step-up from the skills training to increase economic opportunities for the recipients of the training, low interest capital loans for entrepreneurial development have been made available.

In 2010 UniCem is focussing on capacity development in our surrounding communities and has partnered with credible NGO’s within Cross River State to facilitate this.
