The Lenovo IdeaPad 5G Laptop Debuts Ahead of CES 2021

Lenovo is no stranger to releasing new products at CES. It debuted two new laptops last year at CES, and has now given us the early lowdown on what its latest laptops for 2021 will look like.
The big news is the release of a refreshed IdeaPad. We won't get a full spec sheet until next week, but that doesn't mean that we don't already know enough to start getting excited.

The headline-grabbing feature is the inclusion of 5G. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx processor and relying on a Snapdragon X55 modem, the Lenovo IdeaPad now has the potential to connect to the fastest networks sub-6GHz 5G networks in the world.
The 16:9 14-inch display has 1920 x 1080 resolution and can display up to 300 nits of brightness is sRGB. It comes with up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB of PCIe SSD storage.

Because the IdeaPad uses the 8cx processor is doesn't need a fan, so it is exceptionally quiet to use.

Battery life is also a big plus. Lenovo has said it can handle 20 hours of video playback. That eclipses many other models on the market, but it remains to be seen whether independent testing will verify the manufacturer's claims.

USB-C charging is available and the entire unit weighs just 2.6 pounds, making it easy to carry around. Windows Hello is supported via the IR camera.

At the time of writing, Lenovo has not confirmed the price.

The IdeaPad Pro and 5i Pro Are Also Available

Lenovo is also bringing 14- and 16-inch versions of the IdeaPad 5 Pro and IdeaPad 5i Pro to market.

The two laptops are nearly identical except for the processor. The former will use AMD's latest Ryzen 5000 mobile processor, the latter will rely on the 11th-gen Intel Core processor.

Both laptops have a 16:10 screen ratio, Wi-Fi 6 support, up to 16GB or RAM, and up to 1TB of SSD storage. Battery life is 15 hours on the 14-inch model and 13 hours on the 16-inch model. They also both have an IR camera for Windows Hello and two 2W Dolby Atmos speakers.

We know the IdeaPad 5i Pro will cost €699 or €899, depending on the screen size. The cost in the United States has not yet been released.

The IdeaPad 5 Pro will cost $1,150 for the 16-inch screen and will be available in US stores from May 2021. The 14-inch version is €799 and will be available in Europe from March 2021. Again, a US price or release date has not yet been revealed.
