Manchester United handed boost as Cavani renews contract

Manchester United may now not be involved in the chase to sign Erling Haaland this summer, with the Old Trafford club welcoming the news that Edinson Cavani will remain with the club for an additional season.

With homesickness having been put forward as a potential reason as to why Cavani wouldn't stay in Manchester, Boca Juniors had been diligently working to find a deal to sign the former Napoli goalscorer in the summer.

It was understood that Cavani would have accepted a move to Argentina, simply to be back in South America, although that now appears to not be the case.

Cavani's agreement with United contained an option for a further year, and that will now be exercised.

Boca Juniors will now turn their attention to alternative forward targets, although none will arrive with as big a reputation as Cavani.
